HRMC Foundation Fundraiser Nets $80,000

On Saturday, February 2nd, the 2008 Hendry Regional Medical Center Foundation Social was held at Joe Marlin Hilliard’s cabin in the woods. Approximately 130 people attended this second annual Foundation function. Silent and live auctions were held throughout the evening (Carl Berner, Foundation Vice-Chairman, was the auctioneer), and by the end of the event, a whopping $80,830 had been raised!
Chairman of the Foundation, Robbie Castellanos, spoke of the Foundation goals and its successes during the past couple of years. He spoke at length on the aggressive physician recruitment efforts at Hendry Regional Medical Center, stating that in the past two years, eight new physicians (with a variety of specialties) had been added to the hospital medical staff. Robbie explained that the addition of physicians are greatly increasing the patient population in both the Clewiston Hospital and the LaBelle Convenient Care Center, causing the hospital (Hendry Regional Medical Center) to reach maximum capacity on three occasions in January 2008—a milestone that had never before occurred in the history of the hospital.
Robbie announced that the Convenient Care Center had opened its doors on October 15th in LaBelle, and proudly stated that the Foundation had presented a check to the hospital in the amount of $100,000 for the Care Center’s X-Ray equipment. He also explained that, due to state and federal regulatory issues, the construction of the new Emergency Room, Surgery Suite and Laboratory in Clewiston would be delayed, and the completion of the facility could take up to two years.
In closing, Robbie thanked Joe Marlin Hilliard and his wife, Barbara, for their generosity in sponsoring the social and for their support of the HRMC Foundation and Hendry Regional Medical Center. He also expressed his appreciation to those attending.
