KEEPING IT CLOSE TO HOME

No one wishes to be a candidate for surgery, but if it becomes necessary for you to have an operation, Hendry Regional Medical Center is the place to be. Dr. Leonard Carroll is a board-certified general surgeon who arrived in February of 2007. He now performs over a hundred surgeries a month at HRMC.
During high school when young Leonard was making decisions about his career path, his father offered him two choices - he could become either a minister or a doctor. Leonard chose the medical field. He finished high school at the age of 17 and completed college two years later, doubling-up on his college semester courses and credits and going through summer sessions. At the age of 19, Leonard Carroll was a ‘straight A’ medical student. He graduated in 1967 from the University of Tennessee Medical College. He completed his internship and his residency at the Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Before coming to Clewiston, Dr. Carroll and his wife lived in Jamestown, Tennessee, where he was a General Surgeon for 18 years. He and his wife, Cindy, are very familiar with rural communities. As a comparison in population statistics in 2000, Jamestown was a mere 1,839 to then Clewiston’s 6,460. The Carrolls have become actively involved in church, civic organizations and social events and have purchased a home in Clewiston.
Although word is getting out about this experienced and personable surgeon, many in the community are still unaware that they may have surgery, right here at home. Dr. Carroll performs various types of surgical procedures - among them are laparoscopic and endoscopy surgeries.
Laparoscopic surgery, often called band-aid surgery, is a modern technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions, as compared to the traditional larger incisions. Of these types of procedures, Dr. Carroll performs laparoscopic removal of the gall bladder and appendix, plus hernia repairs, vasectomies and tubal ligations. He also does circumcisions, hemorrhoid surgeries and many gynecological procedures such as ovarian cysts, hysterectomies and others. In addition, Dr. Carroll performs endoscopic operations. Endoscopy means “looking inside” and typically refers to looking inside the human body for medical reasons, using an instrument called an endoscope. These types of surgeries include gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and colonoscopy, which can all be performed right here at HRMC.
Dr. Carroll has always had high work ethics, and it’s not unusual for him to put in over a hundred hours of work per week. His patients become personal to him on more than just a professional level - he prays for his patients before their surgical procedures.Just because you or a family member need surgery doesn’t mean you have to leave town for the procedure. At Hendry Regional Medical Center, you’ll have access to a broad array of sophisticated surgical services in both in-patient and out-patient settings. Schedule your surgery near home.
