I would like to tell you a short story about us. For the past 5 years, my husband and I have spent our winters in Clewiston. Other than minor medical problems, we have never had to be admitted to the hospital. I want to tell you that my husband was a patient of Dr. Mitta’s from January through June of 2007, and was admitted to Hendry Regional Medical Center on two separate occasions during that time.
Dr. Mitta and his staff showed us that they really do care about their patients by showing their concern and promptness to my husband’s situation every time we had an appointment - even to the point that they had to put him in a wheelchair and take him directly to a room at the hospital, where the registration employee came to get us to get him registered.
Both times he was admitted to the hospital, every employee, from admitting to cleaning staff, showed us how they truly do care about the patients and their families. He was in next to critical condition both times and again, and both times they all came to our aid, just like they had known us their whole lives. Dr. Mitta or Dr. Charles came in every day and sometimes a couple of times a day.
The nurses came in just to check on him several times a day during all the shifts, whether we called them in or not. When we did call for them, they came immediately. The staff brought in a fold-out chair with sheets and a pillow for me to stay overnight with him.
The cafeteria employees didn’t forget me, as they made sure that I had a breakfast with my husband every morning. When I did go to the cafeteria, they would ALWAYS ask how my husband was doing. The cleaning crew would visit with us, while straightening up the room and showed as much compassion as the doctors and nurses.
When he would be sleeping, I would just walk the halls, and the nurses (whether they were assigned to my husband or not) would comfort me, showing that they truly did care about me also. The loving care that my husband and I received while there at the hospital could NEVER BE MATCHED by another hospital – no matter where it is or how big it is, and you can count on me to make that statement anytime.
I appreciate the opportunity to be able to show our thankfulness to the whole organization of the Hendry Regional Medical Center by enclosing a check to help the hospital with the new Emergency Room construction.
