The Giving Hearts of HRMC Nurses
National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6th (also known as National Nurses Day) through May 12th. During this week-long event, nurses are recognized from coast to coast for the work they perform and the role they play in the delivery of healthcare.
 Each year during National Nurses Week, Hendry Regional Medical Center honors its nurses in a variety of ways - from providing a special evening meal to giving small gifts of appreciation. However, this year, the hospital nurses wanted to change the routine; instead of receiving, they wanted to give. They put a plan into place and decided that they would hold a bake sale to benefit the hospital foundation. They even went so far as to secure an anonymous donor to match the funds raised. Furthermore, they chose to forfeit the gift that they would normally receive and give that money to the hospital foundation as well.
On Thursday, May 7th, this wonderful group of compassionate, caring, healthcare providers hosted a morning bake sale that raised $1,620 in only four hours for the Hendry Regional Medical Center Foundation! They started out selling cookies, brownies, slices of cake, pies, and other desserts that they had baked. Next, they auctioned off five more fantastic sweets. Hospital employees enjoyed the scrumptious goodies, as they too supported the HRMC Foundation through their contributions.
There are many qualities that define a nurse – one is dedication and commitment to the profession, with a nurturing, caring and giving heart. Hendry Regional Medical Center is proud to say that its nurses not only possess this wonderful quality, but also many more that are required of them in their career field. Although National Nurses Week is over, don’t pass up an opportunity to say thanks to the nurses in our community. |
